How Do You celebrate
an audacious journey?

The year was 2001 and the dotcom bubble had just burst. Waves of Internet companies were in bankruptcy, hundreds of billions of dollars of capital was lost and stock market value had plunged by trillions of dollars. The telecom industry was in freefall and the optical telecom sector had become the toxic waste of venture capital investing.

Into this environment, three wise guys showed up with a wild idea for a start-up. Infinera wanted to celebrate its pioneering journey and salute the people who had battled the odds to bring its breakthrough technology to market.

Tell a silicon valley tale
from startup to IPO

Our job was to recount the incredible tale from fantasy to reality behind Infinera’s disruptive technology. We were entrusted with complete creative freedom to craft the production and communicate the truth (more or less). The film debuted at Infinera’s luminary packed IPO party and covered some provocative questions.

Like, why did Infinera’s audacious goal to create the world’s first Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) face incredible skepticism by experts? (Goliaths like Bell Labs and AT&T had tried to build this type of chip with their best engineers for decades and failed.) Or, what kind of risks did Infinera take on? (Technology, market and financing risk.) And how did Infinera pull off $336 million dollars in venture capital funding and a $1 billion market valuation at IPO? (Smash conventional beliefs and launch a new era.)

Show a breakthrough
seven years in the making

We captured the company’s history, recognized the commitment of its people, shared major milestones and projected its bright future. By featuring Infinera’s all-star team in a comedy spirit, we chronicled its seven-year journey from a Silicon Valley start-up to a publicly listed NASDAQ company.

To pull the story together, we did ample research including interviewing the company’s founders and employees across functional areas, surveying newspapers and trade magazines and reviewing the company’s archival information. To keep the audience engaged, we reenacted scenes, wrote lyrics, composed music, created animation and added motion design.
