How Do You make cultural literacy a thrilling adventure?

As classrooms in America become increasingly diverse, a top goal for educators is to create an environment where multiple cultures are valued and celebrated. Yet many school systems face the challenge of scarce cultural studies resources and rising community expectations for multicultural awareness.

The Kaur Foundation desired a change in this picture. It wanted to create a national educational resource where students could explore cultural differences and appreciate the uniqueness about each other as well as learn about the Sikh way of life.

Embark on an expedition to exciting new worlds

Our idea began on a blank sheet of paper, upon which we dreamed up a learning extravaganza. Here, a trio of khaki clad explorers open up their eyes to worlds unknown and embrace new cultures. We created a safari theme, packed full of knowledge and transported viewers to a place of adventure, exploration and discovery.

We made the road to cultural understanding great fun by showing young minds the thrill of learning about other cultures and how they could become cultural explorers, too. The job had just three qualifications: Be curious. Ask questions. Have fun!

"We all want to be respected. So get to know those around you and respect the differences in others."

Engage and Enlighten
with a delightful twist

The project involved an extraordinary level of collaboration with artisans, technichians and community. We did enormous research, including educator interviews, classroom observations, advocacy group consultations, community discussions, and pouring over volumes of literature online and in public libraries.

To bring our vision to life, we worked on the project for over nine months with a dynamite production team of near 40 people and support from more than 70 upbeat volunteers. This unique production included an elaborate, custom-built set, a wide range of scenes and required extensive planning, scheduling and logistical preparation.

To add variety and hold student interest, we animated motion design segments named “Fun Fact”, “Did You Know” and “Culture Quiz” that entertained and informed the audience. While the show was crafted for an elementary school population, the colorful, vibrant and full-of-surprises approach appealed to kids and grownups alike.

Come explore many worlds near and far from your home ... we love to learn about ways not your own. The more we know, the more we grow.”
